The APEC CEO Summit (October 5 – 7, 2013) brings together over 10 heads of state and dozens of ministers with CEOs and senior executives from hundreds of the world’s largest companies. It is bar none the largest private-public sector dialogue of its kind. The APEC forum promotes amongst other agenda items open trade, sustainable growth and inclusive development across the Pacific region and the APEC CEO Summit is its annual centrepiece, rotating from one APEC economy to another, year after year. After a successful event in Vladivostok, Russia last year, the spotlight in 2013 is on Bali, Indonesia. Eric Abelev, Director and Senior Corporate Communications Advisor at MSLGROUP in Hong Kong, is attending the summit as an advisor to MSLGROUP client Walmart and its Asia CEO Mr Scott Price:

On the morning of April 7th 2013, a bunch of MSLGROUP Asia’s senior managers convened around the coffee area in a conference room in Singapore, introducing each other and swapping common client stories in anticipation of what I for one, expected to be a rather dry summit on systems and processes. How wrong we were! The four day summit prompted intense discussion and innovative case studies delivered with innovation and passion – reflecting one of our key goals of being an unbound source of creativity and engagement.

Why is Procter & Gamble moving its beauty and grooming business to Asia? “Because Asia has been the most exciting market so far, and has grown to offer the most opportunities.” pointed out Glenn Osaki, MSGLROUP Asia president, to an auditorium full of students at the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai on August 23.
Around 120 students, some of which willingly stood up throughout the full hour due to a packed auditorium, hung on to Osaki’s words as he detailed why Asia is now “the right place to be”.
Recently, I was invited to chair a panel debate at HEC Montreal on ‘Newly Emerged Economies and Traditional Multinationals.’ It was a lively session, which included Mr. Zubin Irani, Senior Managing Director, Commercial Companies, United Technologies India; Mr. Robert Bieler, Vice President of Investment for SNC-Lavalin Capital; Mr. Liping Xie, Senior Managing Director, UTC Aerospace-China; and Dr. Jianwei Zhang, President of Bombardier China.
Charlotta Lagerdahl, Director, Eastwei MSL:
Last week, I was invited by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai to talk about the needs and the drivers of the next generation of employees in mainland China. The speed at which China has developed over the past decades has not only presented an array of opportunities, but also a myriad of challenges as a result of a fast-changing socio-economic landscape.
I had the opportunity to interact with 100+ Hanmer MSL Clients in Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai last week for a half-day long workshop on six stages of social media maturity.
I started with the passion tags post-it note game, then explained the six stages of social media maturity model using the Pepsi Refresh and Dell case studies. Throughout the workshop, the participants worked on their own stage 5 social media strategy, using the social heartbeat framework.
Here’s the blurb for the workshop:
Six Stages of Social Media Maturity
How to integrate social media into your web platforms, marketing programs and business processes.
I’m delighted to share that I’ll be conducting a half day workshop at the Marcus Evans Social Media Marketing Conference 2010 at Novotel Mumbai on Novermber 18-19, 2010.
I’ll demonstrate the possibilities of a strategic social media program with the Dell case study, illustrate the 18 social media use cases around conversations, campaigns and community using short examples and close by arguing for my 360 redux approach to integrated marketing, with the Pepsi Refresh case study.
Other speakers at the conference include senior executives from Yum International, Viacom18, Cadbury, McDonalds, Taj Hotels, Nokia, Mahindra & Mahindra and Unilever.
